Here's what I'm looking for. 1) Mounts in a car. It can be can't mount or dash mount. But NOT the ones that squeeze the phone and clip to the vent at the same time. Those last about a few weeks for me. Either the vent clip or the squeeze release breaks. 2) Vertical mount. I need to be able to see the phone vertical (portrait). 3) If it's magnetic, the magnet needs to be strong. The ones I have tried are not strong enough to hold an S6 or S8 with an Otterbox when I hit a bump. 4) I need one lightening plug version and one with the new S8 mini usb. Yes, my Google machine works. I am just looking for first hand experience if you know of something that is steady and just works.
Can't help you with the electronics end of things, but RAM mounts are totally awesome and don't break. Used them in multiple ways for motorcycle applications.
It would be sweet if it did both (either wireless charger, which the S8 does, or a plug in cradle). But my main concern is just holding the phone in place (vertically) either mounted on the dash or a vent. But I want it to not fall apart in my hands like most do. And I want it to not let go of the phone (like most do).
This little guy works amazingly in my car. Best car mount I ever used. Works great because of a little metal plate that goes onto the back of your phone or inside the phone case but probably won't work with a real thick case like the otters. No charger. It's held my samsung s7 and iphone se.
I agree with the above. I use permanently attached ones (stuck on, not clipped to the vent) and the smaller ones hold a 7" tablet. I have some slightly larger ones that even hold my phone (6") to the dash while offroading. As said, no charger though.
Yup. Can't beat RAM for mounts. The X-grip is nice but they make more secure mounts. RAM X-Grip® for Phones and Tablets
I stick velcro to the dash and to the back of my phone cover. Holds great and super easy to remove. Lint eventually builds up and you have to clean it, but still, works great.
Buy a new car with an audio system that lets you integrate your cell phone. Then you can leave the phone in your pocket. -Mike
I have that already. Bluetooth for music and call audio. I want to be able to.... 1) Charge it 2) Use navigation and see upcoming turns 3) Change songs/albums at an intersection. .. all without the phone being way out of my field of vision when looking forward.
Thanks but I think I can come up with something simpler than a new car. That's like showing up to a boxing match with a bazooka.
