i have an american pbass with quarter pounder pickups. i want to add a bridge pickup. what compliments the quarter pounder P pickups best?
thats what i was thinking.....although my friend has that setup and says one overpowers the other sometimes. just wondering if there is a good combonation. or if i should just get a new set, both P and J. passive of course
Why not put in a J bridge pickup, then wire it with 1 volume control, 1 tone and a blend control. Then you can adjust the balance between the two pickups. Jim
i am...just wondering what is the best match for a quarter pounder P. maybe its a quarter pounder J...i dont know.
just curious- have you tried this setup at all on another bass? i ask because i did this and have seriously regretted the money and time spent. most (not all) J players will tell you that the bridge pickup is the least important part of the J-bass "sound." I find that all this adds to my American P-bass is a nasally grunt that drives me crazy.. which is also what I find if I put too much emphasis on this pickup on my actual J-bass. My advice is.. if you haven't spent a good time playing a P/J, track one down and try it. I think most people have no idea how good a humbucker can sound on a P (especially at the neck but that's a different sound altogether )
I did the same mod. i ended up throwing a STK-J2 bridge on it. had it wired with a 3 way switch and v/t v/t stacks. the stk is a humbucker and compliments the 1/4lber nicely. the p still over powers the bridge j a bit , but if you work with the pickup height you can get it close. the 3way is awesome, b/c you can always go back to std. pbass tone.
Ever think of this config? John Campbell signature bass. http://www.drumcityguitarland.com/d...4-String-Electric-Bass-Guitar--P1925C364.aspx
