Here is one based on the Neve design. It costs about the same as an Avalon U5 over here. http://www.vintagedesign.se/M81.htm
I'm quite surprised that noone has caught on to the Vintech pre's. Their based on the Neve 1073. http://www.vintech-audio.com/ They also have an affordable version and a Class A version.
woah, easy now! my head is already spinning from the chandler, then y'all go and throw all these fantastic other pre's! but the chandler pricewise, i think it says $800.
I would also use "luscious" to describe the Great River. It should be noted that the FMR Really Nice Preamp is no slouch either.
the recording cats know that there are actually more than a few production "neve knockoff" preamps out there. My GP uses an API (i think that's right) in his studio. FWIW, it's "very nice", but i woudln't say that the fmr is in the "neve clone" league.
My recording chain uses an Aguilar DB-680 with the DI out going into an LA-4a compressor and then into one side of an API 312 rack mounted by Brent Averill and the DB-680 feeding a PLX 2402 into a Bag End deep red 15 with an Ev RE-20 on it plugged into the other side of the API/BAE 312 and then into the 192 I/O of HD Protools. Works pretty well with a passive Sadowsky or an MTD. Aloha, Jonathan Happy Thanksgiving, all.
Last two sessions: Warwick Thumb 5NT -> Countryman DI -> solidstate Chandler Mike Lull M5V -> Countryman DI -> LA2A -> old API console Fun sessions.
