Modest price hollowbodies any good? (Ibanez, Samick)

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by spaceman, Jan 24, 2004.

  1. I've recently realized that hollow body basses look pretty cool.

I was wondering whether the modestly priced instruments like the Samick Royale
or Ibanez Artcore AGB140 & ASB140 instruments (all about $400) are worth checking out at all?

Or should I avoid these and look at something more expensive
like a Jack Cassady (at about $700) or a Lakland Skyline hollowbody (at ??$)?

Anything else in the full-scale hollow body scene that's worth taking a look at?

Try the DiPinto Belvedere Std if you can find one. I tried one out and while the ergonomics didn't work for me I really like the sound. Affordable, too.

You can get the Casady bass for less then that used. Look around, ebay has some around at times.

The Skyline may not be available yet, Gard told me it was delayed, and maybe this spring.

1100-1200 is the target $$ number.

The Casady guys all SWEAR by them. Jack is a
musician with the original big tone and attack, anything he signed off on was probably well done
    to begin with.

Don't forget most of these are semi-hollowbodies!

I have a DeArmond Starfire Bass, which was great bang for the buck. Another one to try.

I love my Danelectro DC bass. It has a very big round, but yet edgy sounds! PLUS it's was only $200:D
