Looking to get a bit more punch and clarity out of my current rig (Ampeg 410 HLF, Avatar 112, SWR 750..playing a USA PBass). Last evening I was looking at the lower 3 ports on the Ampeg and though if I could come up with a way to selectivley block them I could cancel out some boom for the gain of clarity.?

Idea: using some PVC plumbing fixtures (threaded waste line collars and threaded caps) glue the collars into the bottom ports. I could then screw in the waste caps to select ports to "tune" the cabinet to the sound I wanted....never totally blocking all 3 ports!

My question for the experts on this board:

Can this be done without damage to the speakers?

Other thoughts/ comments on my approach to the issue will be appriciated.

    Thanks,

    JoeB

Wow that is very interesting and intuitive. I have the same cab and am curious as well.

Sounds like a bass problem and not a cab problem, I have the same cab and it is very clear.

Maybe try a different bass through your rig before you start to fool with it.
