These are wonderful fretless, but less playing and need justify letting it go. Always had flats on it. Finish is awesome. The old classic finish crack has been there for 5 years. Has no impact on the instrument beyond aesthetics. Comes with Mod case and any paperwork, tools etc. Action is moderate but could be lowered, fretboard is nice and straight, some slight wear on the fretboard from strings. As it's a non wood finger board fretless and neck, it's not going anywhere. Has a more growl to slappy tone but you can get most any fretless feel/tone with the electronics.
Yes. No. It's a gotoh tuner and looks like made by the same folks as Modulus's own tuners on this bass. If you do not use the detuner, then you just do not flip it. Otherwise there's no detraction as far as appearances.
This is my old bass. Really nice instrument. I have the original tuner if you’d like it. Shoot me a pm
Aguilar OBP-1 Preamp and 18V Pick ups are an upgrade and give a better tone at the lower end. Gives almost a Warwick sound on the brighter end and less mud on the fatter lower strings. Keep the flats on it.
Are they the vintage vibe jazz reed James? Any other changes than the pickups and tuner ? Can you do a sound sample ?
They are "Reed James Neo pickups". No other changes. Recording/editing, player's fingering, strings, amps, etc, all factor in to any sound independent of the pick ups. Better to survey and read up and watch several videos(many data points vs 1). Ultimately, it would be the buyer that has to be happy with the sound in their mix. No sound clip will replicate that exact set up you have. Pick ups: Reed James Neo pickups - Google Search
I did look it up , hence why I asked . What I found was a reed james neo vintage vibe jazz and reed james neo I forgot who signature jazz . I own a lined fretless Modulus vj4 with passive bartolinis so I agree they are sensitive to strings and style . My wears progressive flats currently . How much did the change alter the stock sound ?
I have no reference point to compare to. I did not add the Reed James pick ups when I bought it years ago, they and the D tuner were installed already. Tuner is same as a stock tuner, does not go out of tune and you don't notice it unless you need to drop the E string to a D etc. But generally, the reviews are favorable vs the bart stock. If you have a VJ with barts already, you would be able to discern the question you are asking better than most anyone else. I have a Flea bass fretted with a single Bart, aguilar pre etc. I suppose if I were to guess, you'd get a more jazzy vibe but it is solid over the entire range. I had a couple of Zon Vinny's with two barts, but neither were fretless.
The flat strings added a predictable tone change. Fairly snappy at the brighter settings. I was happy with them rather than keeping the round wounds.
