I just received an F Bass that sold before it arrived! This one is so sweet I gotta share- it is an Amber Burst with a Birdseye Maple top that is very thin and elegant- notice how it is bent where your right forearm would go so you dont lose the birsteye in the carving-- the pics are hosted on my site as to not take up TB bandwidth and drive space

Man, I would've had an F six a long time ago if the spacing at the bridge was 3/4". Great basses! Hands down the best preamp out there as well!

You know what would be great? An F bass with a mahogany body and a maple neck/fingerboard. Now that would kill!!!!

well, this one was sold before it arrived so i didn't want to get fingerprints all over it and have to wipe them off- but i do have a short clip of mine on this page.. where you can see it from a tree trunk piece to the finished bass

  9. Great looking bass. I dig the burst finish. The birdseye top is great too, especially being a bent top.

Geoff, it says that the spacing is 3 3/4 from the B to the C string. It doesn't list the distance from one string to the next like you see most of the time. I believe the string spacing is 18mm. Not a big difference from 19mm but enough to feel it.

I also prefer 28 frets and I would never pay the outrageous(sp?) upcharge to have it done by F bass. I also talked to a guy who did have it done and after a year and a half wait he wasn't that impressed with the bass. It certainly could have been that the F sound just wasn't for him but I'm not willing to spend the dough to find out.

  12. Wow...that fingerboard is blinding :D

    I never seen a bursted F bass...and I have to say...that looks soo good.

Great choice on color and fingerboard dude.

    have fun:bassist:

  15. I thought that spacing was generally measured center to center. I guess I could be wrong.

Adrian could confirm but I'm pretty sure you're right Geoff. The 95mm from B to C spacing found on the FBass site is from B center to C center so if we divide 95 by 5, that gives us a 19mm (center to center) string spacing.

Center to center is the reference normally used for bass bridges. Andrew, I believe that's what you have on the Nordstrand. Could it be that you had a custom bridge made by hipshot to get 19mm edge to edge??

    Peace, JP

That's why I love this site. All of my false jargon gets corrected here. Yeah, my basses are always 19mm center to center. I know someone told me once that the F bass six strings were 18mm center to center. Oh well, somewhere down the line I'll own one. I'm perfectly exstatic with what I have now though. Although for that jacked up jazz sound you can't beat the F's.

You know, I did read that Anthony Jackson prefers his strings measured from edge to edge. His reasoning was that if you continued to have strings with larger gauges than eventually measuring center to center would put the strings on top of each other. If you measure the strings edge to edge than they are exactly the same distance away from each other where you are actually plucking the string. Interesting.
