More proof science has way too much money invested in it.

    Psychology is pointless?

So too is your opinion of it.

  3. So take the money out of sciences and put it where exactly?

  4. you're right. Less science... because, you know, we'd be on computers without science.

  5. Shove it up your..never mind.. lets just leave it in science

  6. You're just jealous because the bears have a touchscreen computer and you don't.

  7. From an almost prospective patient's perspective of it, psychologists love throwing drugs at a patient whenever they have a "problem". Then they rarely actually contribute anything other than some derivative of the question "and how does that make you feel?"

I hate to say it, but it's just another cool idea that was developed into a business. By sustaining a business you have to convince someone they require your services. And therefore, psychology becomes less about a person's problems and how much money far down a person's pocket is willing to be pulled to keep someone attending cry sessions.

I think of a buddy who showed me our mutual friend's email, where he discusses this concept "everything is gay", because he can't cope with his own personality changes. I especially loved phrases like "my second childhood" to refer to being an unemployed drifter.

You're talking about psychiatrists - not psychologists. Or psychology as a study.

    Fail.

  9. Maybe I am, lol.

  10. dude, they're taking a set of theories and putting them into practice to make cash. Therefore nullifying any of the value the field of study actually has.

    FAIL!

Psychologists don't prescribe drugs. They're PhDs, not MDs. And inquiring about symptoms is a big part of any clinical work. I'm not going to even bother with your second paragraph.

Edit: Too slow! But that last post is epic! Thank you!

    You're not listening.

And you're generalizing to a ridiculous degree.

What would you suggest we do with people who need help? And speaking of science being over-financed, what should we be doing instead of using the scientific method and empirical data to solve problems?

    This, meet this:
You do realize that there is a whole world of psychology outside of the therapy practise, yes?

  14. uh..

Welcome to science / inventing / engineering / etc. 101

Baloney. Technology and medicine (among most other things) would be nowhere near its current state had it not been for capitalist backers. But I guess we don't need either of those....

  16. well, the phrase "buck up and deal with it" works here for a lot of people :D. Honestly I don't believe in most drugs, unless they are absolutely necessitated. Most people that I've talked to that have been in the whole "therapy" deal with drugs have said one common word: tired.

How about figuring out why bears maul people to begin with? C'mon, do you really care if they count?

  17. I like the one where I get the money... even if it may be a bit less than pleasant :bag:

Also, this thread has gotten really ridiculous, really fast. I'm in.

  19. I know you want to take our science money, stash it in your purse, and ride a brony into the sunset, but if we did that, there wouldn't be the internet for porn, cats, and talkbass. I vote science.

Religious studies. Definitely need more of those. And lets take more out of math while we're at it.
