i have an old yamaha pbass that i converted to fretless recently, and decided to get rid of the P pickup, and install a single coil J at the bridge, wire that to a volume pot, and then go straight to the output jack. i installed a carvin J99 and everything is passive. my problem is that its not quite as hot as i would like it to be. i like the tone, but not the volume. ive already raised the pickup quite a bit as well, and that helped, but still not enough. is there any way i can get more volume(i.e. going with active electronics) without buying a new pickup? im new to bass electronics, so any help would be appreciated. if active will work, how would i go about doing that(i'd like to keep it as simple as a single volume control) thanks guys.

The string moves less near the bridge so you always get less volume from bridge pickups.

    Turn up your amp.
