Any thoughts on this bass? Not much on Morgan Monroe ABG's on the TB forums and the specs and quality seem almost too good to be true. I am looking at the MVAB-500 model. http://cgi.ebay.ca/MORGAN-MONROE-MVAB-500-ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC-BASS-W-CASE_W0QQitemZ140143749854QQihZ004QQcategoryZ4713QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem http://shsaudio.com/MVAB-500.pdf
I keep seeing the Morgan F Mando bass popping up. It would be nice to know more about the line. http://cgi.ebay.ca/MORGAN-MONROE-F-...oryZ4713QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
There are more and more of the acousics coming up on ebay and they really look great. I just hate buying without trying!
Any word on these? Has anyone bought? I had a chance to play one with tapewound strings at my local Mom & Pop store... I really liked it! The ones online have the Hipshot Ultralight tuners and upgraded Fishman electronics, but all in all... I was impressed!
I'd sure like to find one of the mandobasses cheap - look at that huge headstock - thinking 8 string conversion!
Wow, I started this thread over 7 years ago! I ended up buying the Morgan Monroe ABG around the time I posted the thread and amazingly, I still own it! For me, 7 years with a bass is very odd. In any case, the MM ABG is a great bass for the $$$. I have played Taylor, Martin, Fender, Breedlove, etc. and my bass is as good IMO. I will likely never buy another ABG.
First it says a lot about a community when people hang around for 7 or more years. Thanks... I think I'll pull the trigger and get it on Friday. The one I played had tapewound strings, so I'll probably never have to replace the strings again...!
I have an Ernie Ball Earthwood, and it is wonderful, the legends are true. Still, I won't say I'll never buy another - there's another Ernie on ebay right now! (in project shape, and pricey, but still...) And if I could score a nicely built mandobass to make into an 8/12er, Doesn't look like they're making the mandobass any more, though. Well, set up another ebay search for a used one...
One of my dreams is to get good enough as a builder to be able to build something rather like that myself... ...maybe some day...
I played a Breedlove, Ibanez, and a Fender acoustic today just to make sure. I went home with the Morgan Monroe. It could have been the tape wound strings, but I loved the sound of the bass - really acoustic sounding. It also sits in the mix well.
