What would you consider the most popular bass used for the studio?

    Thanks,

My guess would be a Fender P or J.

I'm pretty sure the bass would be the Fender Precision. The Jazz may be catching up, but for years the Precision was the bass.

    The P, hands down.

Though I'm a fan of the J too, I definitely disagree with the statement that the J is close to catching up with the P's studio track record.... no way, jose'.

Retail sales of each model is a different story. J's outsell P's and smoke P's in popularity polls.

Funny how sometimes the most obvious is also the most elusive, innit?

Yes definately P or J basses, i've had studio techs try to pull my spector, warrior, etc out of my hands to give me a japanese j bass before.. even though it sounded 20x worse.. thats the bass "to use in the studio"
