Motörhead and Fastway Guitarist Fast Eddie Clarke R.I.P. Eddie Clarke, the last surviving member of Motorhead's classic line-up, has died at the age of 67. The band's Facebook page announced that the guitarist died in hospital after being admitted with pneumonia. Clarke, whose nickname was Fast Eddie, played with Lemmy Kilmister and Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor in the heavy metal band between 1976-82. He played on the first six Motorhead albums, later going on to form Fastway with UFO bassist Peter Way. The social media statement also contained tributes from later band members including guitarist Phil Campbell. He said: "Just heard the sad news that Fast Eddie Clarke has passed away. He will be remembered for his iconic riffs and was a true rock and roller, RIP Eddie." The band's ex-drummer Mikkey Dee added: "This is terrible news, the last of the three amigos. "I saw Eddie not too long ago and he was in great shape, so this is a complete shock. I was looking forward to seeing him in the UK this summer. "Now Lem and Philthy can jam with Eddie again and if you listen carefully I'm sure you'll hear them, so watch out!"
Absolute bummer, the last of the original three. That band changed heavy metal, the way it was perceived and paved the way for so many other bands that I listen to. RIP Eddie.
Oh my freaking GOD! That's so sad. Motörhead have always been one of my favourite bands, and I've been lucky enough to catch them live countless times over the years. You just couldn't beat the 'classic' Lemmy/Fast Eddie/Philthy line-up though. Crap... Devastated
Saw motorhead open up for blizzard of OZ back in 1981 at the kinsmen field house in Edmonton. Gonna have a drink for Fast Eddie tonight!
Don't forget that Fastway was originally a band from the names of Eddie & Pete Way. Fastway were well-featured in the film Trick or Treat:
Bad, sad news. I remember being surrounded by about 6 punks in Stoke-on-Trent around 1980 and thinking "uh-oh" but they saw the Motorhead jobby I'd painted on my denim and it was all "fookin ace band, Motorhead" and camaraderie. A lot of non-metalheads (including me) got them.
Lemmy would never agree that MH were Heavy Metal or Punk & always just said they play Rock & Roll, but... {}
