I'm considering having a 5 string neckthru bass built with Lightwave system pickups.

Has anyone already done this ?
Did you experiment problems of any kind ?
How hard was it to set up ?

    Any other advice?

    Thanks.

Actually, I've already contacted them. They will gladly sell retail even for a one-of-a-kind instrument, but they only have 2 conditions :

1-They will only sell to professionnal luthiers/manufacturers.

2-They want their stuff on a brand new instrument, not as a customization.

They also sent my luthier a very detailled mounting operation guide.

I'd just like to get real world experience and thoughts about those.

... Just to let you know that the project finally started.

Any tip and/or advice about installing Lightwave systems is welcome.

Lightwave were very helpful when I dealt with them. I hope I get to make another bass with their stuff. The installation was tricky, though they did send a lot of information -blueprints basically, it just took me a while to line everything up. The new system 2 looks to be a lot easier to work with, and I think any problems I might have had have been solved with the re-design.

    Best,
    Laurence

For now they have been helpful, except that they take forever to answer emails.

They are designing the whole electronics including pots and wiring and will send it all.
I asked for something they were not used to.

    - Volume, push pull for a full/0 passive tone.
    - Switch for mag pickup simul.
    - Icetone piezo volume, push pull for fullrange/highrange piezo.

I don't like EQs on my basses, so no daughterboard for me.
I'll keep you up to date.

its common knowledge by now that i've helped LW with some design work.

if anyone needs help understanding or getting templates for the system 2 LW monoliths, let me know.

Well, apparently they have issues with the push-pull switch in the piezo volume mod, and they're trying to solve it.

I have mail contacts with Keith there. They seem either really slow on mail or really busy.
We already solved a few problems.

Anyway, we got the templates, so it doesn't slow down the project.

    Thanks.
    Apparently, you rushed up things.
    The kit is ready.
Price is expensive, but when you consider that it includes the whole electronics, bridge, piezos batteries and pickups, it's not more expensive than any other high end setup.
    News will come.

    The bass ?
    Well, it's in the making.

    Will do.
This is a no compromise instrument.
I know our concepts are right (I got very active in the designing process) and they will be strictly applied.
Now, I only hope they work in real life.

I'm working on a fretted 5 string LW equipped bass right now. They do seem to be a bit slow in getting things shipped, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait:)
