Mouse drivers, Old DOS games and Windows XP

Discussion in 'Off Topic [BG]' started by rabid_granny, Jun 18, 2005.

  1. Hey, I downloaded a game that was made around the time of Windows 3.1. I have managed to get it to work on Windows XP through the compatibility wizard but I can't get a mouse driver to work. Anyone know how to enable the mouse for a DOS game running on Windows XP? I have downloaded mouse.exe or something like that.

Give DOSBox a try, it's a DOS emulator. Modern version of Windows can only run very basic DOS applications as the DOS subsystem that used to be in Windows 95, 98 and Me is now gone because it caused stability issues.

Funny you mention this. I just downloaded DOSBox for OS X to try and play my old copy of X-Com (the 1st one).

+100000. I love DOSbox. Only thing it hasn't worked with for me thus far is Return to Zork.

And to the guy above me, I actually got X-Com working perfectly just in WinXP. It was kind of surprising.
