Mouse in progress!

  1. My Rob Allen Mouse 30 is near completion! :bassist:
Here are a couple of pics of the body. Picture this with a fretless ebony fingerboard. Underneath the masking tape is a matching ebony bridge. The contrast should be awesome.

He said it should be assembled by mid week, I can't wait. :hyper:

That looks great! Is the spalted top impregnated with anything, or is it just top finish?

  5. Thats a beautiful spalt you got there. Its going to look killer with the ebony board and bridge.

  6. Thanks guys,

Yah, I am just a tad anxious to get it.

As far as the finish is concerned, that's pretty much it. It's a satin lacquer finish, which is a low gloss finish. It Makes the wood look natural. on top of that is a clear coat just to protect the top.

It think the pictures do not do it justice, they are very low resolution, about 115kb each. I tried to blow them up a tad just to get a better look and the pictures get jagged almost right away.

Here is a picture right off his web site of a very similar spalted maple mouse 30. This one has some flame as well, but it is a better representation of what the finish will look like.

I should have it some time after the Thanksgiving, I'll definitely take some pics and post them, if I can put it down long enough. ;)

  7. Beautiful top. Rob Allen makes great instruments. (I'm waiting on my own Deep 4 / koa top)

    NICE...

come to think of it...my Deep 5 Koa is behind your Deep 4 Koa behind his Mouse. This should become the waiting for Rob Allen to do his magic thread

  9. Do you know when your Deep 5 is scheduled to be delivered?

I found out earlier this year that Rob had started 3 Deep 4's so grabbed the one with the koa top ... here was the pidture from a month ago

  11. Hey, It looks like we are starting our own little support group!

The Rob Allen foundation for bassist in waiting.

Not a long wait at all though.

Those are both great tops, I love koa. I was looking for something really different when I picked mine. What can be more different than a 30" scale semi-hollow body fretless with a spalted maple top?

I would love to hear one of those. Maybe he will get some more sound examples on his site.

Good luck with yours, those look real sweet. I will post some pictures when I get mine.
