There was a thread on this awile back, but I thought I would add a poll to make it more offiicial. My wife and I have this ongoing argument about moustaches. She thinks they are masculine and sexy, I think they look dumb and dated (see Burt Reynolds, Tom Selleck) Since she likes it, I wear it

Moustaches are the ugliest thing in the entire world. The only person I have ever seen that looked right with a stache was Zappa, but that's for two reasons. He added a soul patch, and he was weird as hell.

A stand alone moustache... ugh. I normally don't get annoyed by appearances, but if I could give the fashion world one gift, it would be the elimination of all moustaches. They make you look like a cop, and not in a good way. And when cops have them, they look like a cop with a stupid moustache. BOOOOO SHAVE IT OFF!

Mustaches (without goatee / beard) look great in a couple of occasions:

    1. Red neck cops :D

    2. Gay bars

    3. Village People cover bands

Other than that, they should be avoided - unless you live in the 70's :D

Since it is a thing about looks, and you have a wife, it would make more sense to wear the thing. After all, the purpose of a moustache is to attract the opposite sex, and the only member of the opposite sex you need to attract is your wife.

Since I believe most members of the female sex are not attracted by moustaches, I do not wear one. I also do not wear a moustache because I am 17, and when I do not shave my face looks like it is covered in dirt rather than facial hair.

Nothing like a good pornstache to win the esteem of your peers.

I'm kinda feeling like mustaches are on the verge of being fashionable again though. :scowl:

I've had one for 20+ years, no need to change now.

Judging by what I drive, wear, and the Bass I play it's 1979 all over again. ;)

P.S. Your wife wants you to have a stache so no other chick will come near you.

I have a moustache and a soul patch. I like it, my wife likes it, and apparently other women do to. :D

The big thing for me is, I've had a moustache and/or beard for most of my adult life and even at 44 years old, I look like a kid without one.

I met some people recently who I hadn't seen since high school and they said I didn't look any older. Also, I have shaved my stash off on occassion and every time I do, I get carded in bars. Geesh! I'm 44 years old and I even have some grey hair, but without the stash (at least that), I look really young.

Of course, the soul patch works for me too.

I thought about growing on but I thought I would look stupid. I might just grow one as a joke.
My friend on the other hand has had one since High School and I think it would scare me to see it gone.

Funny...not 2 minutes ago my coworkers and I were joking about mustaches b/c a lot of our clients (they're financial advsors) rock the 'stache and it looks so porn-star and 80s to us. At least the ones our clients have are.

In general, I'm a no-facial hair gal. But it is weird when you first see a person who you've gotten used to seeing w/ facial hair and they take it off.

Well, I can live with a "porn star" look. :D

As far as fashion...80's, 70's, 60's, 90's...whatever, I've always had the same look. It comes into fashion, then it goes out of fashion, then back in again. I don't follow trends so it really doesn't matter to me what's in at the moment.

Like everything else, if you wait long enough, it will come back around. Same thing goes for long hair/short hair, shaved head/Not shaved, tatoos/no tatoos. Fashion trends are too amusing to even consider.

I have grown a moustache on several occasions. It's weird, since I'm 19 years old. Here are some pictures...

    1. A perfect example of the porn star look one should avoid. In high school I played Mr. Snow in Carousel and I had to grow a moustache and sideburns. This is a picture of the moustache, the day after the show closed - I shaved the sideburns. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=13268&stc=1. (Pictures from the show to follow in my next post)

    2. This is a more recent picture (about 10 months ago). I think the soul patch and goatee counteract the porn star thing. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=13270&stc=1

Oh, sorry about the crappy photos. I'm getting a digital camera soon. Gosh darn scanner...

Any TB ladies care to weigh in with the female point of view? Gia?

  19. number two is really a lot better, which proves my point that moustaches without anything else are evil, but combined they are great.

btw, i'm 19 as well and also have one

Yuch... sideburns, worse than a moustache by itself....
