MP3 conversion?

Discussion in 'Recordings [BG]' started by mebusdriver, Apr 30, 2005.

  1. Sorry for the stupid question, but I just can't figure it out. I've got some stuff in an .aif format and I need to get it to and MP3 format. Andybody know of an easy way to do this? Thanks.

Full disclosure, I'm a certified Fender technician working in a music store that carries Fender, Yamaha, and Ibanez products among others.
Google search ".aif to mp3 conversion" and start looking--I found a slew of programs you could start with.

dbPoweramp is one of the best freeware program for transcoding things from different audio files, ( http://www.dbpoweramp.com ) but I think the new version doesn't have a free mp3 endcoder built in. If you decide to use it and it doesn't send me a PM and I can send you the older version that has a Lame MP3 encoder built in. AIFFs are pretty strait forward audio files (like WAV on PC, its AIFF on Macs).

Audacity is also a decent open source audio app that can open the AIFF and export it to MP3. It doesn't have a lot of options on the MP3 Export, but it should do what you want 90% of the time and you can do a lot of audio tweaking on it to boot. ( http://audacity.soundforge.net )
