this post has a littl chance of anyone replying to it but here it goes anyway
i was watching the metallica documentary the other day, Cunning Stunts, just before the start of For Whom the Bell Tolls, jason used some effect and it sounded really really cool
i know barely anything about effects for the almighty bass but i was just wondering if anyone who had seen the documentary could tell me what the effect is and how he plays it and all that kinda stuff
    well thanks

  4. I know the thing you're talking about. I tried to play it, i think he pretty much pedals the open E hardcore and and uses the Wah. Then just runs from about 12 all the way down on the E.

    aka

    12, 14, 9, 12, 7,9,5,7 etc. just quickly whilst hammering that E..

I dunno sure good enough to run into Bells tho.

    :D:D

    1) The song "For Whom The Bell Tolls" is on the Ride the Lighting Album and therfore composed and played by Cliff Burton.

    2) That tab was way off, try....

    The heavy intro bit is:

    G-----------------
    D------------------
    A------------------
    E - 2-2----2-2----0 (no effects)

    Then, with distortion and wah:

    G--19-18-17-16- 19p16----------------19----------
    D-----------------------------17-16---------------------
    A---------------------------------------------------17-16
    E--------------------------------------------------------

    The verse is

    G---------------------------------------------
    D-----------------------------------------------
    A--------------------------------------------------------0
    E -0-3-2-1----0-3-2-1------0-3-2-1----0-3-2----(no effects)

  9. My brother worked out the To Live is To Die bass bit from Seattle '89, and the bass solo before it starts too.

I managed to work out the bass bit that Jason plays with Kirk, you know just before they run into My Friend of Misery/Sanitarium etc.

    Cool videos i must say.
