Been awhile since we have had one of these. If you ride what do you ride? Post up and explain a little about your bike! This is my specialized hardrock comp. Got it a few months ago and use it for commuiting and light urban riding. It has upgraded shifters, levers, pedels, bashring, stem, handle bar looking to throw on dual 24's and a new fork. So what do you ride?
10+ years ago riding and racing MTB's was what fueled my fire. After a broken collarbone and a couple of years away from the bike, the itch to ride came back, but this time it was on the road. 6 seasons of racing on the road came to an end last year with 4 wins including a State Championship. As of this year, however, demands of family responsibilities and the motivation to pursue music more seriously has lead me to retire from racing. I still ride (for fun, not pain), and I still have a MTB (Trek 9900, Manitou TiSX fork). In fact, one of these days I might dust her off and take a ride in the dirt again.
I raced single-speeds when you couldn't buy MTBs('82-'83 on); you had to cobble one together from old Schwinn cruiser frames & a mix of road-bike & motorcycle parts. Check out the MTB hall of fame- the latest inductee, Paul Thomassberg(aquaintance & great guy), preceded me by a year or so(and beat the pants off me regularly). Wild Bill, also a good freind is mentioned there as well. Mind you, I was never terribly fast or cool or really all that original, but it was cool when most people had never heard of mountainbikes. My latest is a Specialized FSR XC Comp. I'd like to put my old('83)Lawwill Pro Cruiser back together, & I also still have a Retrotec frame hanging in the storage unit/garage. Memories... BTW, I started a thread on this a few months back- 'Any mountain bikers on TB?' IIRC... Also BTW: SilentM, sweet load. Do you jump? And EricF, w/a broken collarbone, you are more 'Pro' than I.
WOW! I had no idea we had this much expearance around the boards! Thanks for the posts guys! I dont do drops or dirt jumps. more technical urban riding.
I ride for fun as well,i own a Kona Kikapu DLX. 2003,Kona Kula 2001. just riding the trails whenever i get a chance or when i'm not too lazy i also work part time at a bike shop so i get to see some cool toys come in.
Kind of cheap, and not too good for MUni (and I'll probably break it some time doing drops and hops), but that's what I got (with an air seat and upgraded pedals).
Alrighty, I'll PM you a pic when I get one (I gotta get someone to use the camera, get it set up, etc.). Could be a week or two, but you'll get one.
What a great thread. I'll post a pic soon. My wife and I are both Specialized riders. I have an '04 Stumpjumper FSR and the wife rides an '04 Rockhopper hardtail. Lots of nice places to ride in Florida centered around old limestone quarries. The free riders love it. We went to Moab last month and did a three day tour with a guide. Amazing scenery!!!
Well I obviously ride a Sycip. www.sycip.com Her name is Charlotte the Harlot. Birthday pic: Reynolds steel frame, Manitou X Vert 100mm, Race Face/XTR drive train, XTR wheelset w/ XT hydraulic discs, Easton bar, Chris King, Time, Thomson, you know... all the good stuff. Funny I bought this bike as my ultimate race bike (to replace my Cannondale F2000 Lefty), and I quit racing. We spend a lot of time in the So Cal deserts and mtns We rode in the jungles of Thailand (just me, her and my camera). We even rode through downtown Denpasar in Bali before those yahoos started blowing stuff up. We've also been to Singapore, Hongkong (Vic peak), Brunei, Oz, Bahrain and Iraq. Anyway, I love mtn biking. I think it gives me the tenacity and determination I need to get through most of life's tests.
My single speed comuter mtb: Its a pre-department store Raleigh 4130 frame, all done up ol' school SS. My new Urban Assault Machine: Azonic Steelhead Pro XL, with a beautifull KHS Rigid One fork... Soon to have some E-13, Avid, Kenda, Sun, Axiom, .243 Racing, Atomic bling to finish it off... Boo yeah! Alex
