Very nice! Is the top spalted maple? Is it colored, and if so, what color does Mr. Tobias call that dye?

    Hi X !

The top is spalted myrtle, beautiful, isn't it? :)

    Not sure about the dye.

I think the TB classifieds should have an option box for seller that are selling huge GAS inducing basses like this that says:

"get TB member's wife's permission before opening thread" :p

As requested, sound clips of the bass only. Recorded directly into my computer, no compressors, EQs, nothing.

Beautiful bass. And great playing on the funk clip. If I buy this bass, will I be able to play like you? :)

I'm not that familiar with different neck/body wood combos. Would you know how this compares to a maple/ash combo?

Sure you will play! This bass is magic! :D (check my myspace site http://myspace.com/brunocoelhobass - although I did the recording there with my Fodera...)

About the combination of woods: This is the MTD sound IMO. It is more compressed and less zingy than ash/maple in an equal MTD. The ash/maple MTD I tried was waaaay too bright for my taste. This sounds more midrange focused, without the (for me) harsh highs of the maple MTDs I tried.

Looks like it will be a good complement to ash/maple bass (not an MTD though) that I already have.

    Few more questions:

1 -- No repairs done? No parts ever replaced?
2 -- What's the condition of the frets?
3 -- What year was this built?
4 -- BFTS equipped or not?
5 -- How often did you use this? Are you a real, gigging musician who actively played this beauty? Or are you like me... the unfortunate 6-hours/month only wannabe bass player?

1-No. Also no dings, no scratches, no nothing.
    2-Perfect
    3-I think around 2000 (serial 490)
    4-What the hell is BFTS?
5-Not more than a couple of hours a year, inside my apartment. (I have too many basses, and for the work I am doing, I can't use this one - One band is an acoustic band where I use my Rob Allen mouse, the other band requires me to use a Fender or something that looks like one). Probably took it out of the case no more than 30 times.

This thread is killing me incrementally....

bump for a great looking bass, the woods I would (will? we'll see) pick, and some really nice playing.

BFTS - Buzz Feiten Tuning System. I know the new models have it, but I don't know when he started putting them on.

I saw your MySpace page... you have one heck of a bass collection!

Ah, ok... (I hate acronyms!) Mine doesn't have the BFTS. :)

I will probably sell some of my other basses soon. No reason to have that many, some really don't get any playing time.

    Bump.

It is almost offensive that this nice piece is still here...

I'm surprised too. Sweet bass at a good price. If I didn't have one with the same woods, it would have been gone.

As a famous kung fu master once said... "patience grasshopper..."... :)

I'm trying to sell stuff as fast as I can so I can get this... hopefully it won't be too late! Darn stock market...
