A beautiful MTD 635-24 for sale. #1474 in excellent* condition!

*I am using the term 'excellent" as described in the guidelines for an instrument's "Condition" on Reverb (Gear Conditions and What They Mean):

"When something's been used a bit but is still close to new, you can file it under Excellent. For modern gear, Excellent items are almost entirely free of blemishes and other visual defects and have been played or used with the utmost care. For vintage items, there may be some marks here and there, but the item is still in the top echelon when compared to similar examples. All Excellent items should be 100% functional in every way."

The body is ash with a crotch walnut top.
The neck is ash with a birds-eye maple fingerboard.
This bass is 35" scale with 24 frets.

Ok, I got to say something. I just acquired this same exact model with identical wood combo recently. I have put it through its paces. OMG! This particular bass and wood combo is in my way of expression...RIDICULOUS! This is my 3rd MTD. I had a Norm Stockton Saratoga and a 535 I believe alder with wenge neck and board. This blows them out of the water. Still toying with the preamp to know what to do for for finger style vs slap. Oh did I just mention slap...thought so....well anyway, I just so happen to be a slapper. GOOD GOLLY MS. MOLLY! When it comes to slap, this thing is totally sinister!! My bass weighs around 10.2 lbs but balances perfectly. I absolutely love it! Action? Insanely low. This six plays easier than my fives. Sorry OP, didn't mean to take over you thread, but what needs to be said, needs to be said! Hey...that rhymed. The end.

I can be super bright and aggressive yet can be tamed down to mellow and warm with few minor adjustments.

As Malcolm Hall so wisely put it regarding this particular combo: "It cuts through the mix like a chainsaw through a wedding cake"
And yes, the slap tone is just nasty! I try not to slap my when there are women and small children near by. Haha.

On MTD's you can set them to sound like whatever you want, if you know what you're doing. If you want a bright tone, then you can get it, but if you want something different you can get that too. You can't just take them out the box and just expect it to sound the way you want it to, but you have to adjust the preamp for all the capable tone options.

True... It's like a best friend. Once you get to know each other, you become inseparable. Put it this way, of the many hi end basses that I've had in my possession this is only the 2nd one I deem as a TRUE KEEPER!! I can't ever see myself parting with it. The other is my Fodera Monarch Deluxe 5 which is my 3rd Fodera. If more people really knew what the MTD listed here was all about, it would not still be here.

    What happened on the headstock?

That's a good question! On the headstock, the MTD logo does look oddly worn. I got the bass like that and never really thought about it. I've attached two pictures of that area. The rest of the bass is in excellent condition.

The bass has had three owners who took meticulously good care of it. The first owner had very many high-end basses. Sadly he passed away prematurely. His family gave this bass to his friend, who was my bass teacher, Patrick Pfeiffer. Patrick is strickly a fretless player and after a while, he sold it to me.

I'm not aware of the bass being gigged very much. I know Patrick and I each gigged it once.
