MTD Blue Bird

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Tom Neves, Sep 21, 2002.

  1. Hello Everyone,
I thought I would share with everyone here on TalkBass how happy I am with the latest addition to my collection.
It’s a 425-24 MTD Flamed maple top/Headstock with a Tulipwood body and Wenge fingerboard and neck.
I’ve had it for a couple weeks and just last night had an opportunity to play out with it with the band.
Boy….. WHAT A GREAT PLAYER!! Worth every penny.
Unlike all of my other Basses….this one cuts through the mix exactly how I like, tight and focused without being too bright but with that heart pounding drive that glues the whole band together.
I Played through the Walter Woods and S15D Bag End last night and was floored.
Clear as a bell but still retaining that deep round sound.
I want to thank Gard from Bass Central for all his help. They are a great store with a knockout MTD inventory.
I already am looking forward to a MTD 5 string someday and will be sure to do business again with the good people of Bass Central.
    Enjoy the photos

    Enjoy the bass!

Welcome to the MTD club. They indeed pack a focused punch, especially the ones with the all Wenge neck. That's a very nice blue burst.

    Hi gfab333,

Is that an MTD 535 on your avatar? I'm looking for a used one. (hey Gard, are you listening?) :)

The MTD 535 is the best bass I've played so far.

I almost hate to admit that, since I don't own one, but such is life... :)

yes, it's a 535, maple neck w/ wenge fretboard & ash body with maple burl top.

Every now and then I see used 535s in the TB "for sale" forum, Bassgear.com, Adrian Garcia's Access-bass.com, Bass Central, Bass Northwest, Basspalace.com, bassalone.com, etc. You just have to keep an eye out.

  9. Tom! I'm glad you're happy with it, she was a beauty indeed, and we miss her here at BC. By the way, that's a GREAT photograph! :D

    I'm here...and I have one...PM me for details! :D

    Nice bass, Tom
  12. Everyone,
I appreciate all the kind remarks.
Some day when I grow up, I'd like to work on one of Gards 535s.
Talked with Mike Tobias prior to the purchase and learned a lot about the wood combinations and tone options.
The only problem is, it's like eating chips,
"Once you start it's real hard to eat just one" !
    Thanks All
The cat's name is Montegue Fitzgerald,
    Fitz for short.
