MTD Heir vs. Lakland 55-01

    I'm looking for a new 5 sting and I've narrowed it down to the MTD Kingston Heir or the Lakland Skyline 55-01. I'm looking for a modern sounding 5 with a MM J pickup configuration and these two are in my price range. I'm looking for something with wide spacing and a rosewood fretboard and active electronics.

    Actually, the Lakland 55-01 doesn't have an MM/J configuration, it has two soapbar-style pickups. The 55-02 has the MM/J, but it's more expensive.

    These instruments are very different.

    The Lakland is a little bit better than the Hier, but it's not the same price !

    The Lakland has an active pre-amp... Where only newer Heirs will have active electroncs.
