mtd kingston vs. heir fretless?

    A little help from my fretless playing friends :help:
    I'm thinking of picking up a fretless bass, I currently play a Mtd Heir and like it very much... but my question is the J pup very inportant in fretless tone, or will the MM on the Kingston do the job? This is my first fretless and I have to watch the bank...

    Hi

    I have a MTD Heir Fretless and use mostly the Bridge pickup, I would have definitly managed with just the "musicman" pickup, but I don't like black basses (MTD Kingston) and therefore bought the Heir. The MM pickup gets the defined "mwah" tone out of the bass. The J pickup is good for mellowing out the tone and has a much more bassy sound. But even though I barely use my J pickup, the bass is just great!
