MTD Kingston vs Heir

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by bass87, Aug 2, 2004.

  1. As my first venture into the 5 string arena, I am seriously considering a MTD Kingston, but was just wondering how the Kingstons compare to the MTD Heir basses.

What are the differences in tone, electronics, general build quality etc? From what I've seen so far they are pretty similar in price, so thats not major problemo.

I play in a jazz big band and a rock group with a Fender Classic 60s Jazz, would the MTD's be ok for both situations?

Any other similar 5 string suggestions?

    Cheers

The Heir will be more versatile for the different styles of music that you play since it has the additional J-type pickup and active electronics. The Kingston is more of a one-trick pony, very bright and powerful. You can roll off the highs with the tone knob, but it's passive so that's all you can do to change your tone.

I added an Aguilar OBP-1 to the Kingston - night and day!
