OK... last one was a bit too easy so for the "slap blind test" I had to throw in a few more basses!

(This is the follow-up to this thread.)

    Here are the contenders:

    approx EQ: +20% treble, +10% hi-mids, +90%bass

    approx EQ: +20% treble, +90%bass

approx EQ: +30% treble, bright switch on, +70%bass

    (see next post)

Same as last time, basses are recorded direct to the soundcard with no drum loops. Each bass has fresh Sadowsky Stainless steel strings (045-128) but the JP Singlecut has DR strings (045-125).
Pan pot is always at center: 50% bridge pickup, 50% neck pickup.

Here are the links to the clips:

    slap1
    slap2
    slap3
    slap4
    slap5
    slap6

So... which clip for which bass? Don't forget to tell which are your favorites.

Ok...I honestly have no idea except I am pretty darn sure that number 5 is the warwick because once again I think that clip sounds so vastly inferior to the others...I'm not real impressed with 2 either. I would probably guess the MTD on that one.

Number 1 I will guess the sadowsky PJ...the others I won't even try.

As far as *my* personal favorite I'd say I really can't pick in this one. In the last test it was obvious to me which sounded best. In this one none of them really thrill me...I'll be curious to hear the results.

I,m pretty sure 5 is the warwick....My bass has 2 J pickups in a very similar position, so I know what it sounds like. If I'm wrong, well, I'm stupid.

anyway, 4 is definitely my fave. 6 and 3 aren't too bad, but the others don't do it for me.

not sure which clips are what other than 5 though.

I'm pretty sure that I like them all, but I *still* prefer my MTD! :)

I don't really know which is which, but i agree that 5 sounds like doo next to the rest of them. I really liked 2 and 4 the most.

Number 3 does it for me. Must be either an MTD or Sad V5. I'm thinkin MTD. God I want an MTD or Sad 5!!!! Someone trade me I got lots O'equipment

  14. Here's my guess:

    #1 Sad PJ
    #2 Sad 24
    #3 JP
    #4 MTD
    #5 Sad J
    #6 Thumb

As for the best sounding I'd say either #2, #3 or #4.

    I can't stand #5

I like 3,6, and 4, but i'm not sure which is which. I'm curious what 5 would sound like with some eq, i don't think it'd be so horrible. or maybe it would I don't know. just curious.

Argh. My strings are old, so I can't compare. #6 sounds closest to the VJ5 though. I think.

It's NOT #5 though. Good lord.

  18. Going against the consensus here but I'm saying number one is the warwick. #5 is the MTD

  19. 3 has to be the sad PJ. sounds sweet

  20. I've never played or (knowingly) heard any of these basses before - so this is totally cold - here's my guesses based on configuration and construction.

    1 - Sadowsky 24 fret.
    2 - Sadowsky J/J
    3 - MTD.
    4 - JP Hollowbody.
5 - Warwick. Can even hear you struggling to get your hand around that ridiculous baseball-bat neck! A very fret-ty sound with no low end. Yeuch!
6 - Sadowsky P/J. I Can hear that P honk in the midrange.

The Warwick was the easiest to pick out - then the Sadowskys - they all have a family sound. The other two stumped me - Number 4 sounded a little more hollow, with less of that MTD low end evident on the last four clips.

    So...howdido?

Oh, almost forgot! #2 is my fav. If #2 is the Warwick, I swear I will post a picture of myself eating one of my filthy, smelly socks!
