    It's nice to see some pre-Prescott Church Basses. Many think he was the first but so much came out of Mass. as well as NH. I have a Batchelder from 1875 who was actually a relative of Prescott. The FF holes are similar to Prescotts' Church Basses. It is evident that the pre-Prescott Bass Viols were copied from the old 17-18th century Italian Basses as the upper portion is so long on some of them.

    i used to go to that museum for some classes when I was in college. I got to know the curator a little bit and he explained to me that they would sometimes have concerts at the museum using some of the instruments in the collection. He said that the musicians would play music from the time period of the instrument's creation.

    That was years ago and I have no idea if they still do it.

    Pretty cool link though. Always liked that museum.
