Music Man Caprice: True Boutique Quality

I didn't overlook them when they came out and bought a sunburst body/rosewood neck Caprice back then, which is my go to bass these days. If I had known how difficult it would become to find them and the prices people ask for them now I would have bought a natural/maple neck model too. Also, put me down as another who would love a 5 string Caprice. Is there a Sandberg model that is close?

Sandberg are cool (loved my VM4) but yeah, nothing to really cover the Caprice ground with the custom pickup and PASSIVE We all wish for a fiver, if only they'd open a custom shop

The Big Al thread did have someone from EBMM respond with the Big Al numbers, so just wondering how rare or ubiquitous the Caprice is?

I'm pretty close to grabbing one of these, and probably selling my American Standard Jaguar to make room. I've read the entire thread, and here are the summary points:

People love this bass. (yet a lot of people sold them off after a few years)

It may neckdive a tad.

The pickups sound very good, but they aren't very hot.



Here are a couple of questions I havre. 1) Do the pickups actually blend? On every jazz bass I've ever seen, the pickups don't actually blend, because of the way passive pickups load. It seems like this would be the case with this bass also. 2) Does it have that 'Pingy" PJ tone thing going on, especially while slapping?
