Anyone know what the pre-EB Music Man Sabres or Stingrays were coated with? I'm particularly talking about the maple necks with maple fretboards.
I just brought a used, fairly beat up one. It sounds and feels great, but looks like somebody put it through the ringer. Tried to strip it and de-fret it with all the surgical skills of a lobotomized butcher.
I want to do some restoration work or have some done, but I'm curious as to what made up that butterscotch-like finish.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Ps - I'm also looking for a pickguard, since the current one is actually a Stingray pickguard and doesnt fully fit the bass.
