Bleh, I actually felt really bad for all the people that fell with Axl Rose being the exception. If Axl wasn't such an ass, I would've felt bad for him too I think.
Nothing funnier than people falling on stage! I've done it a couple times my own self. One time I did it at the Mohegan Sun Arena in front of about 10,000 people and the two big screens on either side of the stage were more than happy to show the entire thing. My bass hit the stage and went "CLAAAAAAANNNNNNNNGGGGG!", too. Then our guitarist runs over to me and yells, "Hey, why'd you F up my song?" He's lucky I'm a nice guy, otherwise two of us would have fallen onstage. But man, that fall Axl took was scary! There's a 60's pop star I used to work with a lot named Tommy Roe who has severe back trouble because he fell off a stage that high.
the thing that got me about Axl falling, is he just kept on singing! I would of cursed and burst into laughter if I fell off stage...
LOL! Thanx! I try. Man, I was racked up for 3 days after that. I landed right on my tailbone and walked like an old man until it healed. BTW, I love your sig quote. Makes me want to paint "I LOVE GAY PORN" on a Sadowsky and give it to him
I know how that feels..I was getting ready to go out one night, and there was a pebble or something on the kitchen floor, and my boot slipped on it, and I fell on my *** hard. I think I broke the tailbone..b/c I couldn't sit for almost 2 weeks. I had to carry a donut seat everywhere I went!
I remember seeing Brian Molko of Placebo getting flattened by that Lanky Bass Player they have at the Reading festival in 2003 (can't find a video yet but if I find it I will post)
i jumped off the stage at a gig, ended up more like falling as i tripped over my lead and stumbled around a bit.
Axl is a dick but i have to give respect to that, he fell hard and kept singing, amazes me he became such a premadonna after that.
Steve Harris face-plants in Spain: http://youtube.com/watch?v=br4mDh-dYMQ Keeps right on playin' from his backside. UP THE IRONS!
This is from last summer when we played at the King Club in madison. Our guitar player fell off the front of the stage and I had no idea cuz he played through the whole thing. I asked him the following day how he was doin and he was like my knee hurts a little but i'm ok. I said why does your knee hurt and he said dude, you didn't see me fall off the stage? Yeah, I made a choice either fall on the monitors or one of the people in the crowd, I picked a person. It's at 1:57 in the video. Highlarious. http://hk.youtube.com/watch?v=napEPcoUVdE
- numerous falls of stage, one was only an inch high and i still managed to damage myself.. - one fall when jumping to hit a distortion pedal, landed on pedal OK but the pedal slid across the stage under my foot and i fell on my arse my most recent fall was at glastonbury this year, was exhausted and could hardly stand while trying to play in two bands in a row, stumbled to the side, kept stumbling and i ended up in the drum kit... i am so clever!
If you have never fallen on stage, you are either are being too careful, or you haven't played enough shows! In our band, it's virtually guaranteed at some point, given the footwear involved!
Been there, done that at least a few times. The worst one was at a show I was mixing though. They has just re-done the sound booth and it was a step up to get into it, where before it had been level with the dance floor. I side stepped into the booth while still making eye contact with the singer onstage, hit the ledge, went over headfirst into the EFX rack, and got knocked out cold. This was during sound check, and once I came to I had to man up and do the whole show dizzy and nauseous.
Ran off stage at the end of a gig in a town hall in glenelg (beachside suburb of Adelaide South Australia) back in the late 80's - I had stove pipe black jeans on and a very slippery soled pair of winklepicker shoes. There had been that much beer spilt on the floor around the stage that when I landed I went straight on my a**!! I had taken my Cort stick bass off from around my neck at this stage and had in by the neck in one hand - holding it aloft triumphantly to the crowd as I exited. In the process of falling I have flung this bass across the floor at great speed! It must have slid 40' face down on the floor before hitting a wall. Big round wound string marks mashed into the P'up covers and scuffs all over the black paint and neck. A relic job in 5 seconds flat to say the least....and a lofty fall from grace
