I would love to try a Sterling but do not like the 1 1/2 wide nut.
Sure wish they would offer a Sterling with the standard SR neck.
Oddly enough, you can get the thin neck on a SR.
I must be in the minority on this.

    I think you are.

Maybe you should try a Sterling 5. You could always just take the B string off... :)

I had a fretless Sterling about ten years ago. I loved that bass, but I ended up selling it.

Well last week I found a hell of a deal on one locally. I had every intention of flipping it, but now I'm thinking about keeping it.

If I do keep it, I'd like to add a clear pickguard to it. So I'm curious about where you guys got yours at.

  9. sorry guys, I'm out... sold my sterling last week...

I got my pickguard from Pickguard Heaven (aka Chandler Music). It fits perfectly!

I have a question for you all about pickup configurations and switching.

I have a 5H. I like the sound best in Series mode. But, I had it shown to me the other day that, in Parallel mode, it sounds absolutely awesome for playing slap bass. Definitely better (to my ears, anyway) than in Single Coil or Series mode.

The guy that was trying out my bass liked it so much that he decided to look for one for himself. But, he was considering getting an HS or HH. So, I looked at the wiring schematics, for those. To my surprise, I found that the H model is the only model with switching that offers coils 1 and 2 in Parallel.

So, the question is, am I missing something? Or am I correct in concluding that only the H model can get that exact slap tone (coils 1 and 2 in Parallel)? Do the other models have some mode that sounds close? What is it, and how close does it sound?

That's a good question actually. I have never played a HS/HH, but would be interested to know aswell.

I usually play with coils in series and EQ flat. I do not play in any band where I slap, but when I just want to play slap, then I switch to parallell and turn the mids down from bass and it works perfectly.

Exactly! Since I was getting no action here, I started a specific thread for this, if you want to look for it. It has sparked a bunch of conversation.

I fnally took advantage of some better light to get some better pics of my baby with the new pickguard.

It's a Sterling 5 H 2008 Limited Edition. The color is Sequoia Gold. The pickguard is Baltic Amber.

Sorry for chewing up so much bandwidth, but I love the way it looks when the light hits it. :D:hyper::D:hyper:

ps. I just had it Pleked (it did need it) and setup by Gary Brawer, in San Francisco, and it now plays as good as it looks and sounds. I've had a lot of nice basses - and still do. But, this is my all time favorite for sound, playability, feel, and tone. I let Mike (mb94952) play it last week and he went straight out and bought one!
