Musicman Stingray 5 Pickups

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Zentner, Jan 26, 2006.

  1. Simple question: are the pickups in MM Stingray 5's Active or Passive?

    Thanks so much.

All MMs are active except the passive version of the SUB

  4. Stingrays have a 3-band active preamp.

I believe its a passive pickup with active preamp and EQ. Theres no preamp in the pickup (like an EMG).

Correct, they have, like most non-passive basses, what is known as Active electronics.

Hey, knowing what jack sells ... whatever the prize is works for me! :bassist:

I'm still not sure if the original question was about that fine of a detail, or if he just wanted to know if the bass had active EQ. Pickup type is pretty much trivia when there is a preamp in front of it.

Pickups are passive...electronics are an active 3 band pre-amp.

  11. It is a common misconception that Stingray pu's (both 4 and 5 string ones) are active because Stingray basses are active. They are passive pickups, they work perfectly ok in passive basses and they are a bit hotter than a standard J pu but not as hot as a standard P pu.
