Last year I bought a Stingray 5 from the Bass Palace. Bob told me that it was an early 5, and has a Ceramic pickup instead of an Alnico. It also has a gloss finish on the neck instead of the satin finish that you find on later Stingray's. I didn't think much of it at the time, but several other Stingray 5 players have told me that mine plays and sounds much better than theirs. Someone told me that this was a late 80's 5, but I thought Ernie Ball started producing the 5 in '91. Any info on the history of the Stingray 5 would be appreciated.
