Must have studio plus sub question

    ok guys. besides the ever popular p and j basses what are some "must haves" for the studio/ sideman player.

    sub question - is it better to be a "sonic cameleon" or have a signature sound?

    I think it's a a little bit of both. If someone asks for you becase you have a unique sound, they want you to sound like YOU but if someone wants a versatile bassist they talk to someone else. in my opinion if someone needs a session bassist and doesn't want different players in different songs one asks the sonic chameleon but if someone has a required taste and wants this and that player to make it more "real" one asks different players. Then again in most cases producers don't always know what they want before they start recording so being versatile might be a good deal for you.
