    Hi, first time poster here

i was just wondering if everyone could help me make a database of "must hear" or largely influencial bass tracks for myself and others to refer to.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, and i hope to post here more often on TB...

I heard it through the grapevine - gladys knight & the pips
    Cotton avenue - Joni Mitchell
    Hejira - Joni mitchell
    Havona - Weather report
    Boot-leg - Booker T. And the MGs
    Rubberband man - the spinners
The Package - a perfect circle(this is a very new song, but the bass work is *phenomenal* great example of keeping it in the POCKET but still taking some liberties)
    Squarepusher's theme - Squarepusher
Walkabout - Red hot chili peppers
    Proceed - The roots
    The Breaks - Kurtis Blow
    All I need - AIR
Something about us - Daft punk
You got to funkifize - Tower of Power

I keep editing this list as I go over my music and think of stuff that a beginner would really learn from, but it's so hard to just list a few from any given band, especially bands like Tower of Power, Booker T, The roots *all* the bass work is stellar.
I could go on but between jazzbo's post and mine, you should have a good list of artists to check out ;)
