OK, I've had this for a couple months, but I've been too lazy to bring it into existence until now. It sounds surprisingly good. It's not as versatile as any of my other basses, but it does what it does better than any of the rest of them. Very nice fit and finish but, hey, it's Japanese. What do you expect? A very fun piece of kit. Also my only 4-string of the 16.

I always liked how those look...especially that color. Is it hard going from 30" scale to 34" or 35"?

I’ve never found it to be an issue (more like a welcome change sometimes).

It is a fun bass, kinda feels like a toy (solid, though), and the great sound that it makes just seems sorta unexpected.

Wow, I had a jazz bass just like that one that I traded for my mustang. I've also got the Oly White Mustang. Great little bass, but can feel like a toy.

No, not for me. I've never had a real problem switching scale lengths. I have lots of 34's and 35's and don't even notice the difference. Playing the 30-inch 4-string down near the nut is very much like playing 5 frets up the neck on a long-scale fiver.

    M,

Hope you've been good. You do know that resembles a P-bass, right?

That was kind of my point. It's as close as I'll get. My first bass was a '65 P, and I didn't like it at all. I even put DiMarzio pickups in it, so the bastrich who stole it has to absorb the lost value.

For the edification of our TB audience, what does it "do" that you believe it does so well? Also, does this mean you will be joining the Official Short Scale Bass Club?

Cool! I've got a '74, -neat basses. Mine looks funny on me, I'm 6'3" and it makes me look huge!

Love those Mustangs Munji, and +1 on the scale switching.

Gotta post the obligatory Mustang Bass (we missed you=welcome back) vid from Tokyo Jihan:

It gets that cruddy P-bass sort of tone. Kind of muffy, no sparkle at all. It really thumps when I pull out the bass boost on my WTX-500.

I'm not really a joiner, so I'd have to be drafted. Last time I joined something I ended up a Marine for 3 years during the Viet Nam "police action". (Never went, though.)

    Hey Munjibunga, welcome back.

Didn't you have a pink Lakland or some similar bass made? If so that was a beautiful bass. And the Mustang is great looking too.

Now you need a pink Mustang of course.

  15. I find that it was surprisingly loud for such a little thing
and its has a thumpy P Bass vibe although it is not quite as trebly
atleast not fingerstyle ..it cuts through with a pick however

I started using Labella 760N nylon tapewound strings on my Mustang and they sound great.

I have a 2 34's and I used to own a Bronco 30', and I hated it, simply because it sound like crap. I picked up a Mustang in guitarcenter, and it felt more natural to me because it had much more growl and less mud.

played around with a mustang at gc a couple of times and found it quite fun to play. Seriously nice little bass.
