Mute Foam Rubber for My '72 Fender P Bass bridge cover

Go to a hardware store and get foam weatherstripping material.

 

Get the 3M black weather stripping. It's what was there originally.

 

Leo Fender simply bought weather stripping from Sears.

This is what I bought. It will last for several centuries! I also put it in my Rickenbacker, but had to cut it lengthwise.

Those are made by 3M and re-branded as Fender. Plus, those are cut for Jazz Bass pick up height adjustment. It's still just 3M weather stripping.

 

Hardware store weatherstripping. Take the cover with you so you can match what is there.

 

A lot of weather stripping is made of polyethylene, and I found that if held in a compressed state for a period of time, it does not spring back readily. I think the neoprene weather stripping is better in this regard.
