Looking for some help and/or clarification while I'm getting back into pedals.

I've been playing mostly clean for a while and wanted to add some effects so picked up MXR octave and envelope filter pedals and have a question.

When pushing the dry/wet blend to mostly or completely wet signal I'm finding that there is noticeable signal gain so the instrument volume is louder than when the pedal is off.

When using the pedal I expect the tone to change and I get that the perception of the volume may be affected by that but it seems like there is more than that.

Not sure if I'm missing something obvious or if that's just the way they are but I don't remember having this reaction when I used to use pedals quite a few years ago - so any info would be appreciated.
