Dates in New York, Ohio, New Jersey, Texas,Georgia,California,Colorado,Michigan Florida, South Carolina, Pennsylvania etc… Multiple trips to each state on different dates. Back and forth , cross crossing the USA. Building frequent flyer points. Everything from private backyard parties to bandshells, to festivals to theaters to trade shows…
From big P.A. Systems to doing it ourselves with small rented stuff.
The photos are very incomplete as I was remiss in documenting everything, but it might be interesting for some to see what typically you might get when walking into a gig with unspecified amp requirements
I’ve gone from SVTs to Gk to Rumble combos to nothing at all …. almost half of the gigs provided nothing at all.
I learned to pack a behringer sans amp clone in my carryon . Highly recommended!

    here we go…

Nice pics! You had quite a summer. What brand is the red, headless bass?

  8. First, looks like a busy and fun summer. I can't imagine what it would be like to fly to a gig.

2nd, dare I say some of the "backlines" are more interesting than others? :D

Mostly flying to a gig is like getting up SUPER EARLY and then sitting in an airport
Unfortunately I couldn’t get my hands on some of the back line gear that was presented… at least not without risking arrest, but I checked everything out very closely

Wow, that's quite the summer you've had.
I bet you guys put on a great show.
Out of curiosity, which backline did you prefer?
(Talking about the amplification, just to be clear...:))

Well, you can’t really beat an SVT , especially if you don’t have to lug it… but it was honestly more than what I needed for the gig. The tube Aguilar rig was nice, as was the EBS. I guess those were the standouts.
The least fave was not pictured (probably thats why I didn’t photo it) it was. GK head with an SWR Goliath 2 cabinet…ok but kind of meh…. Typical of GK and SWR in General.
The Rumble 500 combo was not inspiring but was better than I thought it would have been.

I was very partial to the yves saint laurent rig though…

I don't know what the reality was, but it sure looks like you had a lot more fun on your job over the summer than I had on mine!

And @WI Short Scaler said, it looks like you got to enjoy an impressive variety of ... uh ... backlines. :D

It was nice, if not a bit dated. It might have been a little tired…
The Aguilar rig was phat, though I was surprised at the lack of brightness.
My favorite 90’s era gear was Trace Elliot

Yeah I like fat mixed with a bright piano string like sound which takes some power and speaker mass. Eden 410 was the bench mark for me, the Eden 210 was a let down. I just went to The Rumble 500 combo due to old age weight issues which is disappointing but good for practice and very small bars. I never tried an Aguilar or EBS. I will say that I was real surprised with an Epifinai 410 set up that was provided for me a while back.

    Thanks for the thread!!

So does your rider not specify that you need backline, or do some of the promoters/venues just decide not to provide an amp in spite of a rider? I ask because when I worked for a sound company, we'd get grief for having the wrong brand of amp. Can't imagine getting a backline rider and saying "eh, nobody will notice if we don't provide a bass amp."

Honestly, I don’t know. It depends on the individual event. All I know that I get the memo from the management of what I need to bring.
I’ve always known ahead of time if the full back line is provided or if I need to bring my pre/D.I. And/or IEM Setup
    There’s never been any surprises
