My Ampeg SVT-410hlf just died ***?!?!?!

  1. hey i have an SVT410hlf that is less than a year old and it just died on a gig this weekend. i was running a 73 pbass through my svt4pro into it and we were playing and it just stopped putting out sound. i checked the head with another cab and it works fine what gives? anyone ever have this happen to them ?

    Sounds like a wire slipped/broke off the input jack. Cabinets don't usually just die, they moan and groan and fart and give you lots of warning...

    If you have a multimeter (or just an ohmmeter) check to see if you can measure any resistance from positive to negative.

    You can plug in a speaker cable and measure across the other plug.

    When you checked it with another cabinet, did you use the same speaker cable?

    When it stopped working, did the amp shut down?

    You might want to check to make sure that the speaker cable isn't open or shorted...

    You are using a SPEAKER cable aren't you (not a shielded instrument cable)?

    lucky you-it definitely sounds like a simple "wire got dissconected/jack broke" sorta thing. dying cabs are usually noisy about it.
