my Bass Central visit.

  1. Business took me to central Florida and I stopped at Bass Central near Orlando. Wow! This place is like Disney Land for bass freaks. They have what you need in all price ranges. Lots of top 'o the line Laklands. Loads of 'Rays and Sterlings. They had a used but pristine G&L cherry burst ASAT that was priced at a steal. I played the Epi Explorer that Gard posted about and he's right. It's a cool axe for a great price. Gard is da man! He let me play with all the toys and he even gave me some solid techniques tips that I appreciate. Bass Central looks like a stand up operation.

I went there in Apr 2000 and bought some pickups mail order in the summer. Pleasant people, good service, good prices what more do you want?

  3. Isn't there something like Bass Central in either Kentucky, or West Virginia? I really wanted to check one of these out, but being in Ohio, its not a leisurely drive to Florida.

I enjoyed my visit to BC too, now I just need to go back for a week or 2 for all the stuff I didn't get to try...
    Great staff there!

Hey CS, have you considered buying a bass from the US? The prices are so much cheaper I have thought about flying out there and buying a bass from BassNW or somewhere. What do you recon?

Matt-sorry re the delay I forgot to subscribe to this thread.

I have considered buying stuff from US.

Pros the prices are cheaper. The service is a lot better in US.IMHO

    Cons

If you are not going anyway the plane ticket is £200-£300 so its best to tack a shopping trip onto a holiday. Bsss Central is 45 mins drive from Kissemee (less if you stay in the International Drive area of Orlando). This is Disney/Seaworld/Universal country so if you go there with kids/parents/whatever its worth a trip.

On any item over £125 you have to pay VAT plus import tax, or smuggle it into UK. The tax is 20% so be aware. Also thou shalt not p*** off the Her Majesty's Customs and Excise (I am not joking).

UK music shops will probably not give you any warranty and the importer probably will not either. Ironically Fender give a lifetime warranty on all US sold stuff but you have to get it back to the vendor.

If you take a long time to choose an instrument then you might be rushed into something you wished you had not bought.

All IMHO and hope it helps

    PS

I went to basscentral to try out some cabs and suss them out for strings and stuff. I like to meet people and look them in the eye. I bought some pickups mailorder from BC this summer and did so because I had met them. I am funny that way. I may buy a gigbag from them (umming and ahhing).

Thanks CS, those were my concerns too. I cant get over the price difference though :(, even with tax equipment may still be cheaper. I don't know about service, I only have experience here in the UK.
