my buddy's 'jazz' recital

We played part of my friends senior recital as a trio, doing some hiphop inspired jazz; the trick is that he gave us the songs and the concept the day of. The idea was to take [in this song] a couple of J-Dilla beats and basically jam after hearing them a couple of times; as a group we had been playing a lot with the rhythmic push and pull of a lot of the gritty dj-based hiphop recordings

p.s. we did a lot of jazz too, and that was all rehearsed
