It has been pretty quick all the time, but in recent weeks it's running like molasses, and I have no idea why. The hard drive is only half full, recently defragmented, I checked for viruses and there are none. I've tried spybot to get rid of spyware but every time I start the scan the program just closes itself. Some stuff is really quick, but other things just take ridiculously long, and sometimes just freeze up. Like right-clicking on icons, sometimes the properties menu takes 30 seconds to come up. Some webpages just won't load while others are fine. It's getting really annoying, because I have to do school work on this, and I can't be losing my files or not being able to open them.

Backup your documents and important data, then reformat the drive, reload your operating systems, reload your programs, then reload your document data from your backup.

I do this once a year, and it really helps.

Good idea, but although it's recommended to format your computer once a year .. it's a pain in the a$$ so it's better to try other stuff before and only as the last solution format.

It sound to me like you have a worm or spy in your computer although you can't find it.
The behaviour of your computer make me think like some hacker use your computer popwer source through a spyware.

Is it problematic also when you are not connected to the net?

If you have a legal copy have microsoft you should have no problems to download from microsoft's page the "microsoft antispyware" which to my opinion is the best antispyware available....just D/L, update, and scan.

I would also recommend you to activate the firewall of microsoft if you don't have it working right now.

    Hope this helps.

Try removing those first, they're all adware.

Atleast it works... my pc died the other day:( and i dont have money to fix it:(

Anyway... get seek and destroy (spybot) and adaware and scan everything... along with avg anti virus... scan it rm it and see if that helps... then difragment the hard drive... that might help
