It seems like there is still some factory lubricant on my strings, and it keeps rubbing off onto my hand.

    What gives?

If you rub butter on the strings, the problem will go away,
and they will have that nice thud. Smell good too.

May save you money if you take your bass to the movies and treat it there while getting popcorn ...

I noticed that my finger tips were black from a new set of Chromes so I used a Blitz siver cleaning cloth on them and it cleaned them up nicely. It made them nice and slick too! I picked up the Blitz cloth at the grocery store.
  5. Yeah those strings are a mess! It's like they're rolled in gunpowder. The first time I got them I freaked out too after looking at my hands. I took them off, cleaned them and could not believe the amount of crap that was on the rag. After that they were fine, sound good too.
