    Howdy All

Been a while since I posted here

I have gone and done it

I ordered my Bass from Dave a couple months ago
and we Hammered out the sepcs togeather
the stipulations were that it had to be

    7 strings

Here is the first shot of the neck laminations

Let me know what you think

also try to guess the woods

  2. From top to center, my guess is wenge, purpleheart, maple, and then walnut???

I think that steamboat guessed it, unless that center strip is ebony:eek:.

Are you going to put a fingerboard on it, or have him radius the neck like John Turner's 8 string?

    I didn't even know Dave did 7-strings. What's the upcharge from 6?

    Feb 12, 2001
    I believe
This is Dave's first 7 string
    It's also his first headless

and It's also Bartolini's first 7 string quad coil

I am getting an ebony fingerboard on it
with no lines, just side lines ALA the Fbass

the neck laminations are as follows

    Goncalo Alves

then it will have black american walnut body wings and a nice piece of Zebrawood to cover it up

    Looking good, Code.

That's some pretty nice looking zebrawood.

Are you gonna go with an oil finish, or a hard finish?

wow, this DP seems to be gaining some popularity among the talkbass community...are they really that great? my, that is some mighty fine zebra wood, though...zebra is one of my faves...i say go with an oil finish ;) at least that's what i would do.
  13. Looks like it will be pretty wild! Can't wait to see the finished product (I'm sure that you can't either).
  14. That looks like one freaking awesome bass. How are you going to tune it? That's a sweet body, although I personally think it would look better as a double cutaway, though. Make sure you give us a review when you get it.

I'm really anxious to see it
but I don't want dave to rush it

I want him to take as long as he needs

I'm going to try several different tunings at first
not sure what I'll use, in the long run. I'm also going to try several types of strings flats, rounds, ground wounds, tape...*if I can get a small enough guage or large enough*

I'm going to have a very unlimited pickup selection/switching method

lots of knobs to fiddle with

I designed the body in 3dstudio Max R3, and sent several pics to Dave so he could blow them up.

The hardware will be black and brass
and I might eventually get piezo saddles for the bridge

not sure weather I want black knobs, gold knobs, or ebony knobs

but whatever I choose there will be alot of them

    Also forgot

I might go with a hard finish on the body, and an oil finish on the neck to keep it nice and smooth

From a practical standpoint, you could get a light poly coat on it IF you anticipate this bass is going to be exposed to lots of possible dings and dents.

If the bass is going to be treated like royalty, long term, I like the tung oil. You have handsome, unstained, tone woods. Tung will ensure their tone isn't dampened, unlike a thick poly coat. And tung just lets them show of their good looks without a "plastic" barrier around them. (But you don't want dinged and dented wood either).

FWIW, I'm not totally biased towards tung. The top half of mine is going to have a light poly coat. But that's only because the wood specie I spec'd is notorious for darkening in a few months without a poly coat with UV protection.

hey code, awesome looking bass! what kind of bridge are you getting?? when will it be ready?

  19. looks like Jerry Drzod(sp?). Very cool. He does do some very nice work. Mine is almost done. I can't wait either but I told him to take his time and make it perfect.
