    35" scale 6 string fretted (3+3 headstock)
    7-piece neck: wenge/maple/purpleheart/maple/purpleheart/maple/wenge
    Ebony fingerboard
    White Limba (Korina) body
    Zebrawood & Paduak top
    Bart Quad-coils
    Active 3-band EQ
    3-way toggle for each pup:
    Neck (P/J/HB)
    Bridge (P rev/J/HB)
    Black hardware
    Hipshot Ultralites

Any ideas/suggestions/comments? Dave should have my deposit VERY soon, but I wanna run it all by you guys first, especially those of you that have worked with him. He's been great!
  2. sounds very cool!

are you getting different size neck laminates? are some going to be thiner than others?

"Zebrawood & Paduak top" how's that going to be configured?

the Hipshot Ultralites, are these the tuners?

what kind of bridge are you getting?

one suggestion I can make is, don't change your mind once you finalized everything. you don't want to change what kind of body wood you want to use after he's glued it on or whatever. just make sure you know for certain what you want. I ended up adding a couple things I didn't think about, but they were pretty minor details.
other then that just be patient during the "waiting game". I know it's tough, but you want him to do his best work, and not his quickest.
  3. it will be interesting to see how the Zebrawood/Padauk comes out...both are good looking on their own, but i'd be skeptical on their mixture...

    LOVE THE 7 PC NECK!!!!!!!

Yeah, I left the rods out. Dave said he insists on putting them in a 6 string.
The top will be similar to this one I've attached.
The tuners will be the Hipshots, but I'm not sure about the bridge yet.
gmann: Are you going with a fretless? I know that snakewood can be VERY difficult to set frets in and it's best suited really only for fretlesses.

what kind of bass is that in the picture? are you going with a custom body shape, or are you going with dave's standard shape?

It's going to be fretted. Yeah, I've heard that snakewood was a bear to fret but ig Dave feels confident about doing it I'll leave him alone.

are you saying an ebony top over a quilted maple back? i dont think you can even do that. you can rarely find an ebony board big enough for that. and a quilted maple back?? i must have read wrong....

I thought the same thing. Perhaps a ebony fretboard with a maple top? I have seen an ebony wings on a top before, but I would think it would be heavy.

Otherwise, sounds like a fine bass.

I would suggest you be very specific with what you want and expect.

BTW, welcome to talkbass! Several of us have experience with DP Custom. Feel free to ask any questions - we're not short on opinions!

    Thanks for the welcome.

I should have said the fretboard is ebony.
You didn't read wrong i did mean ebony over quilted maple. Ive discussed it with Dave and he seems to think its possible. Ive included a picture of a similar combination.

As for the weight im used to heavy instruments so it shouldn't be too much trouble for me, i also do the magority of my playing sat down.

Ive tried most of the parts of the bass, the only thing i dont really know much about are bridges. Im going mainly on reviews with the ABM so if any of you have tried it then i appreciate your views.
