A while ago I started building a bass for a class project, and I've just finished it a while ago (everything but the screw for the control panel) so I thought I would post a couple pictures of it here! She may be a bit dingy and odd, but It was built with my own two hands with little prior experience, so go easy on me.

    I didn't have a jackplate, so I used a large washer.

Hey, it's a bass and it looks ok to me.
I bet it'd look great with Black Beauty strings or D'addario black tapewounds.
If it plays good and sounds good that's what's important.
Actually, the washer doesn't look too bad. If you painted it flat black it'd look better.

Nice job! Agreed about the washer on the input jack, paint it black and throw black beauties on it. A little creativity and will can make you a sweet little bass. I built a bass recently but it's a little more wild looking with hot old p/j emg pickups.

I actually tried to get some black strings, but they were a little to expensive for the moment. Next time I change strings I'll try to get a set.

Good Job! The bass I tried making I had to name "Epic Fail" So if it is working for you, all the better!

This may be the start of something good!

P.S ... just imagine what Leo Fender's first bass would be worth today!

I haven't finished building the amp that goes along with it, but from what I heard when I plugged it into a mini amp (5 watts) it sounded surprisingly good. Once I finish the amp, I'll post some sound snippets.
Yeah, I posted some of the build pics in the luthier's corner here.

Just a thought. Replace the painter's tape with a few screws.

I will, when I get screws. I ordered some from stew mac. Did you think I was going to keep the painters tape on permanently?

How tough is it to get wood screws? That's why God created hardware stores.

No hardware store close to me has the right ones. I'd rather wait and get the right ones specifically made for it.

  17. Looks pretty good. I think the upper horn looks a bit quirky compared to the lower, but it looks unique. Great job!

  18. Nice work. Good to hear you're building the amp as well. Your appreciation of what you have will be on a whole different level than what most of us have.

I think the tape gives it an authentic punk rock vibe. :)
