I've been interested in iPods and the like for a while now, but the price of admission always kept me away. However, Radio Shack has the Olympus m:robe for $99 after rebate, so I thought I'd give one a try.

Why would I choose to use MP3 over WMA or vice versa?

I think wma is what Microsoft wanted to be the digital audio standard for Windows, which didn't work because of the popularity of the mp3 format. As far as I know, wma files are usually larger than mp3 files and can have some sort of protection (DRM) built in, which prevents you from playing music files on any computer/mp3 player.
mp3 files can be played on pretty much anything, can't be copy protected and are therefore easy to pirate.
  3. My mp3 player plays both, snagged it off an online auction site on the cheap. But yeah, mp3 is better all things considered.
