Okay guys I've been gassing for a Lakland 44-01 for a while now but there is one problem standing in my way. I don't have the money, so I'm asking you guys what you would do in my position. I am considering selling my two basses an MTD artist 5 and an Ibanez to make up the $735 for the 44-01. Now don't get me wrong the MTD AND the Ibanez have served me well but I have been itching for a maple neck for a long time and the Lakland is just calling to me. I would try the Lakland but I can't because I live in a small town and would not be able to for some time and with gas prices going up I can't just drive to the closest large city $100 miles away.

Also how does the Lakland play does it slap well? My style is rock/funk if that helps.

So what should I do? Sell the two basses or keep them and just save my way up to $735? Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question but I just don't really know how to ask it. Thanks guys.

    Sell your two basses.

Invest the money from two basses into drugs.

    Sell drugs.

    ????

    Profit!

    Buy Lakland.

Don't sell your two other basses - if you love them now, you'll regret it. :rollno: Guaranteed. Just save up! There's plenty of 44-01's out there to not have to do anything drastic.

I think you should save up too... Buy the Lakland then decide if you want to keep either of your 2 current basses, you can move them then once the Lakland has proven it's worth - which it will.

I'm really considering taking some new pics of my old basses and putting them on here but I'm not sure :ninja:. Guess we'll just have to see. If anyone else has anything they would like to add to this discussion please do so I'd really just like to see what more of the fellow TBers think about this. Thanks

I'll do you one better. Only 3 steps.

Step one - Steal underpants from people while they sleep.

    Step two -

    Step three - Profit!

There now. Less steps, and gnome approved/tested ;)

Seriously though, if it were me, I'd sell the Ibanez (wait, what model Ibanez?) and save the rest. Then have two killer basses. Really, you'd have a LOT with an MTD and a Lakland.

I'm surprised that you do not want the Lakland 5'er. Sell your other two basses and get the Lakland - it plays very well & slaps like crazy - you will love it. It also will directly fit Nordstrand pickups if you want them down the road. You will see them on ebay for good prices so keep an eye on it while you are selling your basses.

You haven't played the 44-01. You have two basses you know well and like. Laklands have a great reputation, but suppose you don't really like the 44-01? You might take a huge step backwards if you sell your two current basses. You might love the Lakland, too, but why gamble two good basses on an unknown?

I'd save your money for a while until you have enough without having to sell anything. By then maybe you will have had a chance to play a Lakland.

I've sold more than one bass that I wish I could have back. I'm just sayin'...

  13. buy used.

  14. you could always try trading for one in the classified, put your basses up for sale or trade for a lakland 44-01 you definately wont be dissapointed in the lakland ive got 4 skylines and i think they are the best value of any bass in their pricerange.

Yeah I'm thinking I might post some pics of my Ibanez if you guys wouldn't mind seeing if you could PM me how much you think its worth since I'm not to sure :O! I'll also post some of the MTD but I'm not 100% on selling that one yet but I just may sell the Ibanez and keep the MTD 5er and get the Lakland 4 to even things out. Unless I need more money. :)

A few years ago I too had GAS'd for a 44-01....so sold some old stuff and bought it, even though I never played one.

End result I was disappointed in the sound. The bass was well constructed, balanced and had a great neck.....but I just could not get a good sound, or should I say a sound I liked out of it. Ended up selling it a month later. If I were you, if you are dead set on getting one, try to play one first. You might find you like your current basses better!

Well, ok.. since you guys pretty much forced me ;) to go and give the Lakland a try.. against my will I made the trip. and....

I loved it. Feels, plays, and may even taste like butter. smooth fast neck comfortable body it was everything I could have hoped for! But now I have to still decide on if I want to sell the basses lol but trust me I am going to get the 44-01 and when I do I'll post some pics :D. Thanks for all the replies they kinda motivated me to go give it a try.
