My geddy lee got cancelled.. what do i do??

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by a e i o u, May 12, 2004.

  1. It has been about 2 and a half months since I ordered a Geddy Lee bass. They had to special order it from Fender. i was supposed to get it a month ago but they keep putting the date off because fender sucks and won't make another batch of basses. they called again today to tell them that it wont be ready until late June. I had my heart set on that bass for so long... i don't know what to do. i already cancelled the order.

Go on Ebay or check the for sale section.....there were a few available in the last couple of days.
  3. see if you can get your money back and just buy it from ebay or musiciansfriend. unless you don't live in the US. eather way I would just try to get my money back at this point (unless you have not paid for it yet) and see if you can get one through other channels.
  4. Dude i hate fender too. My rumble 100 broke within a month and I have been waiting now for 3 months for them to send me a new one. They just keep postponing the date. I hate Fender!

I tried to order an Amer.Series Jazz thru GC but they told me (in March) that Fender has said they are in the middle of a change ,not to place the order now. GC took that as (well at least this particular mang. did) a change to the Jazz. I didn't believe them, what could they possibly be changing ! I took my bussiness to a small shop with a better price and placed the order. 3 color sunburst, 4 week wait. Well after 6 weeks I called to say "remember me "?! The shop told me that Fender just pushed the "GO" button on a hugh data system change over on that very day (that had to be the change GC mentioned) Needless to say the "GO" day for new system went poorly for them and the system was unavalible to dealer to access order info. So my shop called an insider he new in Fender who investigated my order and found out that my order had missed the last production run and would be lucky to see it before June 20 at best. NO Thanks ! Got my deposit back and I'm sitting idle pondering next move.
I'm considering a G&L JB2 but I've also played some Fender Jazzes at stores lately and have notice a more consistantly better fret and nut finishing on more recent Fender basses. Now this makes my decision harder. Just when I was gonna jump ship they switch bait. DAM THEM !!

Look around for a place that has one available. I just bought peices of a Geddy Lee Jazz from PMKelly (1st the neck only, then the body, bridge & neck plate) & I wonder why I sold the 2 I had before this one.

    You could buy this. ;)

That's quite freaky, must have been typing at the same time.

If it was 20 years ago, I may have quit my job and moved to
Tibet and think about it for a while. --grin--

    See ya on Friday Nino.

So far I have been waiting 3 1/2 months for my 62 RI p bass...from the sound of this thread it seems i may be waiting much longer :(
I hope it's worth the wait.

IIRC Nino, your bass is Ash/Maple. Isn't the Geddy Lee Alder/Maple?

If I were going to have to wait that long anyway for a stock instrument, then I would probably have to call up one of my favorite shops and order something special... Now where did I put Dan Lakin's phone number?!

    that would do nicely!

Don't buy Fender. Those 3 little words have served me well since I started playing in 1976.

Hi I have a Fender Geddy Lee i bought in the summer of 2002. It sounds great though i am too used to 5 strings it has been relegated to sitting on my stand at home.
Plus i am ordering a Sadowsky Metro 5 so that will be replacing my Geddy for my "Fender-ish" tone.

If interested i can send pics.
  15. Geddys are pretty nice basses. However, my recommendation would be to either buy Nino's bass (I've heard lots of good things about the basses he puts together) or go get a Lakland Daryl Jones. That's what I'm doing. I found one in a local shop, and now I'm driving across town three times a week just to go play it. Can't wait until I save up enough dough.
  16. DEFINATELY buy That Valenti Jazz. I am in love with his creations.
    *loves Nino-Brown* :D

  17. Is that the USA or Skyline? I've been eyeballing that model for awhile.
  18. It's a Skyline, so the price is right. They can be had new for under $1000. Absolutely the most amazing bass I've played to date.

Look on the bright side......by the time you get the bass it'll be vintage! :D
Just kidding! I know how you feel. Everytime I special order an instrument it allways takes at least 2x (and sometimes 3x)what the store or luthier originally states. I'd much rather be told an accurate delivery date up front so I could just deal with it. I'm sure unexpected things come up but sometimes I think that they're afraid of not getting the sell if they tell you a long lead time. I'm currently entering the 6th week of a 3 week delivery time on a Warmoth body and neck (and the body was already finished!). I think that's God's way of teaching me patience!

  20. Did you get your money back ?

Or are you getting something else ?
